K3 Land & Whitetail is a multifaceted company that helps clients acquire, stock and manage Texas hunting ranches and breeding operations. Being in the whitetail deer breeding business for 20+ years we were able to identify inefficiencies in common management practices and feed programs. In order for a whitetail deer breeding operation to be the most profitable it requires a combination of high fertility rates, low mortality rates and early maturing animals. In order to achieve these things, it takes strict management and a very efficient feed program. In an effort to address the nutritional needs of the deer Cervid Complete deer feeds was developed.
Cervid Complete was developed by Ryan Koonsman, a deer breeding expert with over 20 years of experience. After noticing that traditional feed programs weren’t helping released bucks maintain their body condition, he began searching for a better solution. The issue? The existing feed wasn’t properly conditioning the rumen to process native forages efficiently. Through extensive trials, he developed what is now Cervid Complete—a scientifically formulated feed designed to support deer at every stage of growth.
Unlike many deer feeds on the market, Cervid Complete contains a high percentage of whole grains, beans, seeds, and long-stem roughage, promoting optimal digestion and nutrient absorption. Another key difference is its higher crude fat content—most feeds only contain 2-4%, while deer actually need at least 6% for maintenance. In critical periods, such as summer when does are lactating and bucks are growing antlers, crude fat levels of 10-12% have been shown to support faster fawn development and maximize genetic potential.
